Urbisaglia

URBISAGLIA, LAND OF TREASURES
Welcome to Le Marche, "Italy in one Region". And welcome to Urbisaglia, in the heart of the Marche region.
Le Marche is a region to be discovered, with artistic, historical, natural and landscape jewels: Urbisaglia is one of the many little treasure chests that enrich it. A few minutes from the sea (the Adriatic coast), a few minutes from the mountains (the Monti Sibillini Natural Park), surrounded by beautiful hills, Urbisaglia is a small, precious medieval city which holds treasures ranging from the Roman Empire to the Middle Ages to the modern days (the municipality was awarded the "Bandiera Arancione" of the Italian Touring Club).
For a fascinating, romantic, unexpected stay.
URBS SALVIA, THE ROMAN URBISAGLIA
Urbisaglia takes its name from that of the ancient Roman city of Urbs Salvia. Founded in the 3rd century BC, experienced its greatest splendor in the first century. Beautiful proofs of this shining period (Urbs Salvia was one of the most important Piceno colonies) are all the monuments preserved in the area of the Archaeological Park, the largest of Le Marche (one of the biggest in Italy): the spectacular amphitheater, the walls, the temple-cryptoporticus dedicated to the goddess Salus (with Pompeian-style frescoes), the theater,
the large niche building. Also available is the Archaeological Museum, with important finds from the excavations (which still continue):
statues, tombstones, instruments for domestic use.
MEDIEVAL URBISAGLIA
To defend itself from the barbarian raids, the inhabitants of Urbisaglia moved from the ancient Roman city to the top of the hill, creating the so-called Castro de Orbesallia. So was born the medieval village still existing and almost unchanged, dominated by the fortress (the Rocca).
The Trento, Vittoria and Piave gates allowed access to the castle, inside which the suggestive alleys wind. The main monuments of the historic center are the Church of the Addolorata (the oldest in the city), the Palazzo Comunale, the Collegiate Church of San Lorenzo, Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Salvia. Just outside Porta Vittoria, there are the Parco della Rimembranza (where each tree is reminiscent of a fallen citizen
in the world wars) and the Museum of Weapons and Military Uniforms.
A walk in the historic center will allow you not only to discover these precious monuments, but also the view of romantic views.
AROUND URBISAGLIA
Even the territory surrounding Urbisaglia preserves precious treasures to be discovered. In the Maestà village,
the Church of S. Maria del Masaccio is, from the pictorial point of view, the most remarkable jewel, with frescoes and numerous
votive offerings dating back to the XV-XVI century. According to tradition, in 1429 in this place the Madonna appeared,
and promised liberation from the plague if people would build a church in her honor.
At a distance of 3 km we find the Abbey of Chiaravalle di Fiastra, with the adjacent nature reserve. The splendid Abbey, built in 1142 by Cistercian monks using materials from nearby Urbs Salvia, is one of the most important Romanesque monuments in the area.
In the reserve that surrounds it, you can take suggestive natural routes.
There are also many historical and scenic centers near Urbisaglia: Macerata, Tolentino, Recanati, Loreto, the Adriatic Riviera,
the Monti Sibillini National Park. Furthermore, Ancona and the Riviera del Conero, Ascoli and San Benedetto del Tronto
are just 1 hour away by car. As well as those who love shopping have the opportunity to visit the most important outlets
of famous brands (Tod's, Prada, Cesare Paciotti, Santoni, Fabi, Loriblu, Tombolini, Le Silla, etc.).
